4Drive South Africa operates a booking platform for vehicle rentals across the country. We work with local operators in major cities and airports, giving you access to sedans, SUVs, 4x4 pickups, and campervans. Our system handles the booking advance online, and you complete the rental agreement directly with the operator when you collect the vehicle.
We focus on clarity. Every listing shows which payment methods the operator accepts for the balance, whether a credit card deposit is required, and what excess applies. You choose your pickup time during booking, and the voucher confirms all details including the operator's contact information and location.
Our team works from Gardens, Cape Town. We process bookings daily and respond to enquiries seven days a week. If you need to adjust dates, add a second driver, request a child seat, or arrange written permission to cross into Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, or Swaziland, email us and we coordinate with the operator.
The booking process has four steps. First, you search by location and dates. Filter results by vehicle type, transmission, or deposit requirement. Each listing displays the total cost, payment terms, and deposit amount.
Second, you pay a booking advance online by card. This secures your reservation. The system does not accept cash online. The balance is due when you collect the vehicle, using the payment method shown in your booking confirmation.
Third, you receive a voucher by email. It contains the operator's name, address, contact details, your booking reference, and pickup instructions. Some operators have a desk at the airport terminal. Others meet you at the arrivals hall or deliver to your hotel.
Fourth, you collect the vehicle. The operator checks your driving licence, explains the rental agreement, and notes any existing damage on the contract. You sign, pay the balance, and drive away. At the end, you return the vehicle to the agreed location and the operator completes the check-out inspection.
We cover four main regions. Cape Town includes the city centre and CPT airport, 20 km east of town via the N2. Operators here serve the Winelands, Hermanus (120 km south), and the start of the Garden Route.
Johannesburg listings cover OR Tambo airport and city locations. From here, it's about 400 km to Kruger's Nelspruit gate and 580 km to Durban. The N1 toll road runs south to Cape Town, roughly 1,400 km.
George and George airport sit on the Garden Route. The coastal stretch from Mossel Bay to Storms River runs about 200 km, passing Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, and Tsitsikamma. Mossel Bay operators serve the western Garden Route and links west towards Cape Town.
Some of the vehicles listed on 4Drive require no credit card deposit at pickup. This means the operator does not place a hold on your card. The excess still applies if the vehicle is damaged or stolen, but you are not required to show available funds upfront.
No-deposit rentals suit travellers who prefer not to have funds blocked for weeks, or those using a debit card with a modest limit. The availability of no-deposit vehicles depends on the operator and the specific model, not the vehicle class. Search results indicate clearly which listings require a deposit and which do not.
If you do not have a credit card and the vehicle you want requires a deposit, consider increasing your debit card's transaction limit before travel. Requirements vary by vehicle, so check the payment terms in each listing before you book.
